Christ Our Hope In Life and Death
Heidelberg Catechism: Christ, our only Hope in Life & Death
Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
A. That I am not my own,1but belong—body and soul, in life and in death2—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.3 He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood,4and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.5 He also watches over me in such a way 6 that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven;7 in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.8 Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life9 and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.10

Scriptural Call to Worship: The Risen Lord
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Scripture Reading: Our Secure Hope Because of the Resurrection, 1 Peter 1:3-9
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Scripture Reading: Christ’s Victory over Death, I Corinthians 15
- Pastor: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance:
- Congregation: That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
- Pastor: For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. For Christ must reign until He has put all His enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For He has put everything under his feet.
- Congregation: Death has been swallowed up in victory!
- Pastor: Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
- Congregation: But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
