"Rejoicing in Suffering?"

SPC Order of Worship - July 20, 2025

Welcome & Announcements: James Booth, Director of Young Families

Scriptural Call to Worship – Rejoice in the Lord!

Leader: Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Congregation: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
Leader: You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance. I will be glad and rejoice in You, I will sing praise to Your name most high God!
Congregation: We will rejoice in the Lord always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus!
* Psalm 32, Psalm 9, I Thessalonians 5

Rejoice

Confessions of Sin & Assurance of Pardon

Scripture Reading: Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

Come O Sinner

My Worth is Not in What I Own

Scripture Reading: Come & See the Love of God in Christ the Son

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” The Lord is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
*Matthew 11:28-30, 1 John 3:1, Psalm 118:14, 23-24

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Sermon: Pastor Terry Baxley
Philippians 4:4-13 "Rejoicing in Suffering?"

Responsive Song: Trust and Obey
