I’m New Here!

We know that going to a new place can be a little scary.  You may be asking, “Who are you guys and where do I park?”  Well, we are here to help.  Before visiting SPCA, it might be a good idea to read over this web page for some helpful information.  For more assistance, when you arrive, look for people who are wearing the Big Red Buttons that say “Ask Me.”  Literally, you can ask them anything.  They may not know the answer, but they will do their best to help you.

Stuff to know…

Who are you guys?
Surfside was planted as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America in 1982.  We moved to our current property 10 years later.  In 1995, Julian Riddle became the senior pastor of SPCA and the church has been growing ever since! Julian and the rest of our pastoral staff are always available to answer any of your questions or provide counsel to you and your family.

What is a “presbyterian”?
“Presbyterian” comes from  Greek word for “Elder”, and we are a church that is lead by our elected Elders.  Additionally, Presbyerian refers to the protestant churches founded on the teachings of the Bible alone.

What if I can’t pronounce “Presbyterian”?
That’s OK!  Most of our church members come from different church backgrounds and some have no church background at all!  Everyone is welcome to come and see if they fit in with what Christ is doing here at Surfside.

What is the mission of your church?
SPCA exists to Engage people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, Engraft them into the church body, and Equip them for ministry in the world around us.

How can I connect to people here at Surfside?
The best way to get to know more people is through our Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs).  These classes, a lot like Sunday Schools, meet during both sevices and we would love for you to visit one of them.

How can I find my way around?
Here’s a map of our facilities! Just click here to download:  Map of SPC Building! (CLICK)

Hungry after the service?
We have donuts!  In between the services we have a short time of gathering in the Fellowship Hall where you are welcome to grab a donut and a cup of coffee.  If you walk straight out of the doors of our sanctuary, and down our very narrow hall (that’s always fun), you will eventually enter the Fellowship Hall.  The donuts are great and the coffee is fresh, so dig in!

Where do I park?
We notice that sometimes people drive through our parking lot, but find no free spaces, and so they give up and leave.  We hate it when this happens because it keeps us from getting to worship Christ together with you.  We never want a lack of parking lot spaces to keep you from a morning of worshipping our Savior.  So, we have specially designated spaces just for our guests available as you turn into our parking lot.

How can I find out more about being a member of SPCA?
We offer Membership Classes twice a year where you can find out more about what we believe and who we are.  At the end of the classes, you can decide if you would like to be a member of our church.

Do you have stuff for my kids?
Absolutely!  We have incredible programs for your children.  Preschool has great programs for your children up to age 4.  Upstairs, we have great children’s ministries called “Covenant Kids” from ages 4th-6th grade.  Our youth group meets upstairs in “The Attic”.  We also have a weekday preschool program called “Sonrise Academy.”

Do you have sports teams?
We sure do.  Our men’s softball team is a perennial winner in the Myrtle Beach Church League.  In addition to those games, our softball team also travels to prisons throughout the state to play against inmates and to share the gospel of Jesus.
