New staff at SPC

As we have made sad goodbyes to some of our staff this summer, we are excited about the new staff that God has provided us by his wonderful grace.

James B 1James Booth / Director of Student MinistryJames grew up in Myrtle Beach, running the halls of Surfside PCA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and Master of Arts in Teaching from Coastal Carolina. James has been serving as a youth leader at SPCA since 2004. He met his wife, Alisha at Surfside PCA and they have one little boy, Jeremiah. James ran cross country at Socastee High School as a teen and loves almost all sports.  He is particulary partial to the Clemson Tigers and Dallas Cowboys. James has been part of the Surfside staff since the Summer of 2014.  Email: jebooth3@gmail.com

tsmithTim Smith / Operations ManagerTim Smith has served at SPC since 2006 as our part-time Building Manager.  This summer he has moved to full-time and will take on extra duties as our Operations Manager.  In this role, Tim will continue to be the “eyes and ears” of SPC, as well as a great servant and leader. Tim grew up in Northeast Ohio.  After retiring from General Motors, Tim and his wife Joyce moved to Myrtle Beach.  They have four children – Jason, Ryan, Rob, and Chris. Tim is an outdoors man who loves nature and exercise. He runs, rides his back, and works out at the gym.  Sadly, Tim is also an avid Cleveland Browns fan.  We pray for him daily. Herb has been a ruling elder in two RCA churches, has served as a church treasurer in two churches, and he currently he is a ruling elder emeritus in the PCA.  Email: hparker1@sc.rr.com

Fall Sermon Series – Recovering Redemption

monkimage.phpIn this 12-week sermon series written by Matt Chandler, Pastors Riddle & Melton will dig into the root meaning of redemption. They will seek to unearth our continued brokenness and our destructive patterns of behavior. They will remind us that in order to flourish as believers, we must learn to continually reorient our lives around the gospel.

Below is the fall schedule for the sermon series (Click schedule below for larger copy).

Spotlight on SonRise Academy by Patti Shoemaker

Patti ShoemakerWe are so excited about our new year of 2014-15 with the SonRise Christian Learning Center. I just wanted to say how exciting it is to serve with the precious ladies that I serve with in this ministry. What a wonderful blessing! There have been lots of changes in the new school year – all for the good. I just know the Holy Spirit will show up and pour himself out on our sweet little school each and every week. As for Jackie Yarborough, our leader ~ I love the way she makes time to speak with many of the mommies who bring their children in the morning.  Her love for them is so genuine. It shows in our full classes and happy staff! With Cathryn Akel ~ I just love the fun way that she incorporates nature into her crafts and lessons. Her homemade binoculars were awesome!! I know the kids loved them. With Valerie Brunetti – her class is always sooo excited to do show and tell. And the way that she teaches the students their letters is so very cool!! With Leila Rabon ~ What great ideas she has, like using candy to glue and count at the same time. I’m sure the students eat as much as they glue.  But what a fun way to engage the students’ five senses of touch, sight, taste, smell and hear.  With Kelly Rabon ~ we love her so much.  She is an incredible servant, always ready to fill in where she is needed. What a blessing this school is to me and my heart and also to SPC!!  I can’t wait to see how Christ will continue to use this ministry!
